I have to share with everyone...we had our first foal born at our farm today. A family friend's 7/8th's Arab mare (age "18") foaled her first (and will be her last...lol) beautiful bay stud colt yesterday at 10:30am. Sire is a red roan snowcap appy and the foal has a small roan blanket so will likely roan out more as he ages! Mom and boy are doing great! Picture is of the foal at 2 hrs old.

Congrats to your friend on her new addition! She looks great! The mare looks pretty good for her age as well! What are the plans for the resulting foal?

Well, this little man is pretty special....he'll be staying with us at our farm for us to use later on in his life. His dam is boarded at our place, along with his granddam and uncle...lol. It's a "family affair". They are close family friends and they don't ride any longer so we are looking after the horses for them. My plan is to turn this little man into a simple western pleasure mount. After doing some calculations it was figured that Donte was at least 2 weeks pre-mature (if not 3)....and he has "tendon laxis" on his back legs (which you can see in the pics). But, the vet assured me that as he grows and gets stronger that he will strengthen those muscles and will be a fine pleasure mount.....definitely not a reining or cutting horse but that's OK with me... Laughing He is very healthy and playful and loves attention so other than a little flaw in his hind legs he's wonderful and we love him to bits!
