Wanted: Rock Lake staging area pics and info
My husband knows where it is, we know who to call for reservations and such. But I'd LOVE to see some pics of the staging area, just so I have in my head a picture of how it's gonna be before our convoy heads all the way up there. What kind of stalling or corral set up do they have? Some of our horses don't get along well in small confines of groups and some other horses don't maintain in a tie stall very well.
Any pics or links to sites that have pics would be super appreciated :-)

All the info needed for your horsey camping excursion :-) I think it's a pretty huge staging area and campgrounds, but better be safe than sorry and book ahead. You just have to pay the first night in advance to hold your reservations.

I wish I had pictures of the horse set up but I'll explain it as best I can. We regularily camp out at Rock Lake, in the regular camping loop (haven't brought horses up yet, but hope to soon)...it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL up there and is a very relaxing place to get away to. Services are limited...no flush toilets, and no store close by and bring your own drinking water....but it's well worth it!
The access road from the highway is, well not fantastic but much improved from what it was like 10-15 years ago. It is about 35km of gravel roads, some curvy and hilly stretches and I'd use some caution if there was alot of rain.
The camping area dedicated to equestrian use has I believe 6-8 camping sites that has direct access to the Willmore Wilderness Area. There are 2 or 3 pipe corrals and the camping sites are wide open, plenty of space to set up temp fences. The corrals are big enough for 2-3 horses that are friendly with each other, not a place to introduce horses for sure. I know that you need to make reservations and also that weed-free hay is required for the park. Fires permitted in pits (free firewood but it's normally green, ergh). There is also a large staging area for day use (haul-ins) further down the road.
