Three fillies in a row!
Here is the filly that was born on April 4th, almost 2 weeks old now here is the same filly on the 15th....
Here is the latest filly born @ 5:30pm April 15 out of our Black Merlin daughter X QH so dam is a half sister to the bay welsh X mare. She only looks so huge due to photo angle! LOL . Then at 16 hours old. , . You should see the little stinker run!!
All babies are super friendly and everything we had hoped for from our new stud Sueno. Just the Purebred Merlin daughter left to foal and she`s in the barn tonight...so maybe. Lets see if I catch her foaling too! I hope they start saving the "filly" from the mares we want to retain fillies from due to their ages!!

Aww... I have to say I"m a bit envious. We haven't had babies flyin around here for a few years. Plan on changing that in 2011 :-)
Your mare that had the black foal, is just georgous. Gonna be a nice looking horse for sure :-)

Thanks Jezzabella.
LOL this filly is called Annabelle! We are not sure her color yet as she hasn`t been tested. Wev`e had ones born like this before and they have tested to be Bays and not Blacks..so she could be smoky Black or Smoky Brown, or Buckskin. Yeah they found another color in horses, as if we don`t have enough already!
But it is easier to just call her black right now.

Re: Babies, Babies, Babies!
yeah I'm a simple girl, I call it like I see it. Not much for this 'colour testing' mumbo jumbo. Filly could be green with yellow zebra stripes and she'd still be beautiful lol. So is the sire the perlino guy in your avatar?
Re: Babies, Babies, Babies!
I never cared about color before till people demanded to see <in tests> the color of the horses. To me a good horse is a good horse..the color is just the icing on the cake! I do find it helpful in the breeding business though as you get a better idea as to what color you will get. If our double cream stallions tested EE aa CrCr they would be Smoky cream, ee aa or ee Aa they would be cremello, EE AA Perlino, that could never ever, no matter the color of the dam, produce a palomino or smoky black. Since our stallions are Ee Aa Perlino they can produce Smoky Black, Buckskin or Palomino. I`ve had people Hate Chestnut (red, also known as sorrel) and did not want to get another red based foal ( they had too many) and with our bay stallion EE Aa, we new they would not get one..it would have to be Bay, Brown or Black. Although 2 chestnut (red) horses can never produce a bay two bays can produce a Chestnut! Honestly with the first mare who foaled I had her reg. as Black as she sure looks black...but she is a Bay, the Black mare who had this last filly I thought was a Bay but she tested as a Black., a fading Black but a Black regardless..yet in the summer the "Black" looks more Bay ( due to fading) then the Bay!
Lets say you wanted a BLACK horse, this filly, and you bred her to a Homozygous Black (EE aa) stallion...you would expect a and would ONLY get a Black foal if the mare really WAS a Black. 100% of the time, every time. But if she tested Aa you could get Bay 50% of the time. That`s how people get chestnut ( red) from two Black parents..both have Red Factor (e) and or one or both is not a black but a Brown (At) or Bay (A). A Homozygous BLACK horse can not, I repeat, can not ever produce a chestnut (red/sorrel)foal even if bred to 1000 chestnuts. A Heterozygous Black (Ee) can produce chestnut 50% of the time.
Have I bored you yet??
Are we nuts? It`s after 1 in the morning! I have to go check cows. Have a good one!

Sire of all our 2009 foals
Oh, the sire of all our 2009 foals ( except out of our perlino welsh/QH mare) is Sueno, a colt we imported two years a go from Spain. He is the ONLY one with his papers and color in the World and ALBERTA has him!!!!!
He was bone thin, scared and unhadled till put in quarantine. He was so scared he would fight anyone with all he had..but once he knew people did not hurt "attack" him ( his first experance with people was roped, ear twitched, micro-chipped and blood taken )
He is the biggest marshmellow now!

Re: Babies, Babies, Babies!
Thanks you never get tired of them We got to be there for all 4 births so far this year.
I told Bernie, I am so pooped witht he calves and foals I am not going to do any checking tonight of the donkeys or cows. he said he`ll go.( I feel it`s my job )..so I bet a couple of calves and maybe that donkey since I`m not! Our cattle and mares usually birth early morning to around 11pm. Such good girls. I swear they do that so each morning at 6 I say why did I check during the night?? Got to love them!

About 2 and half days old. I just love the stripes on him! He will be color tested to confirm if he is a Smoky Black, Smoky Brown, Sooty Buckskin and or Grullo.

Re: Babies, Babies, Babies!
This stallion is really strong in his build and conformation of his foals isn`t he? Can his foals be registered as half breds and in which registries? Did you have a broker or agent find him for you?

Re: Babies, Babies, Babies!
Thank you. Yes Sueno is very prepotent. We did not use a broker or agent for any of our horses. I went by pedigree alone. With Sueno I never even saw what his sire and dam looked like till after I bought him and I bought from very skinny photos..great way to see the conformation but I would prefer to see milk fat on them at that age.
Becuase of his pedigree we where not surprised with what he is producing. But he is exceeding our expectations with a first foal crop!
