Aside from conditioning regularly, how exactly can I twist them outwards more. THey torque my toes in and I fight to keep my toes out, so my knees take the brunt and not only I lose my stirrups constantly but makes for really sore knees. I heard about conditioning them then tying them out with broomsticks, but how exactly does that work? I can't wrap my head around it. It's a big ol heavy Lufkin roper (I'm not familiar with the name). Husband's dad used it when they were kids and it's been sitting since, I have it cleaned up and nicely conditioned but it's so stiff, drives me nuts. Other than that it's in great shape, flocking is pretty worn down but nothing cracked or curling. Super comfy too so I really want to get it in more pliable riding condition.

To do it with a broom handle is pretty easy......just hang the saddle somwhere where the stirrups can hang free, twist the stirrups around, and pass the broom handle through both stirrups.

I was told to use that trick, but I dun get how exactly... So i'd twist the stirrups outward 180 degrees? Cause the way they hang right now are like they do when you buy a new saddle, sideways and not in riding position. So to twist them to riding position I'd have to use two broom handles or over twist them outwards so I can pass a pole through both stirrups. Is that right?
