HELP!!! Somthings not normal here.......... Empty HELP!!! Somthings not normal here..........

Post  goneshowin Mon May 04, 2009 10:10 am

I noticed yesterday my yearling filly laying down enjoying the sunlight, when i looked at her she had a bubble about the size of a baseball sticking out of her vagina, its all yellow on the top but the bottom is red (like you can see the veins) and she had a HUGE bot sticking out of her bum, i pulled that out and we stood her up to push whatever that thing was back inside and it went in on its own, but as soon as she lays down its there again, if it keeps up im calling the vet out here but does anyone have any ideas whats happening???????

PS i wormed her yesterday after i found the bot so hopefully its not too serious.

I had something like that before and I called the vet out. I was told that it was an infection put her on the med's and it went away. I would call a vet in.

I'd get a vet out for that one sounds like some sort of infection and you know how finicky horses can get when they have a health issue, I wouldn't wait too long. Also make sure the dewormer you used specifically targets bots, a lot of wormers out there do not.

Good luck and let us know what the vet says!

HELP!!! Somthings not normal here.......... Empty CALLED THE VET

Post  goneshowin Mon May 04, 2009 4:03 pm

she said that she either has a Vaginal Hemotoma and that will go away on its own, or an inperferated Hyman, and if thats the case that she will need meds but to watch her for a few more days to make sure shes not in pain, that she still desicates, and pees. So its not TOO serious just a watch and see kind of thing.

So what happened with your horse? Just curious as it never hurts to be informed if it ever happens to me. Did the vet say why she would have a vaginal hematoma? And what is a inperferated Hymen and waht causes it?

I was guessing prolasped something rathers, but I'm it doesn't sound too serious yet. Hopefully she won't require any surgical intervention :-)

Is this something that might affect her ability to breed later on in life?
