Hello from the Sunshine Coast, BC
Happy to be home with my 9 equine buddies after 2 years in Fort McMurray. But despite what the majority say about it Ft. Mac isn't that bad - it's what you make it...
However, I'm soooo glad to be back in the land of fresh air, ocean and mountains!
We have a small lesson/trail riding operation as well my daughter takes horses in who need a foundation put on them or a refresher course...
This is a great forum!

Welcome to the forum! Look forward to getting to know you and your horses better!
Re: Hello from the Sunshine Coast, BC
Thanks FGR!
We have Quarter Horses and Paints. My daughter has 3 barrel horses and does the rodeo circuit in BC...gets a few in Washington but the since the dollar tanked not as many as before.
As mentioned we have a small operation going at our farm. We've got another 6 horses as well as the 3 barrel horses.
Do you ride competively or (like me) enjoy just getting out on the trails?

Re: Hello from the Sunshine Coast, BC
Nothing better than a good old Quarter Horse! In the past I did some local shows and lots of trail riding! However I am going to get into competitive reining in the next couple of years. I got myself a nice 2yr old filly our of a money earning/point earning reining stallion and have placed her with one of Canada's best reining trainers in hopes that she will do well at the futurities next year! I will have the trainer show her next year and then I will show her in her derby years and hopefully in open shows after that! If she doesn't work out then I will try again with another prospect! LOL
That is awesome that your daughter is such an avid rider, I am really hoping that my son will enjoy horses! I would love to have a little trail riding buddy.
I am really hoping that the dollar smarterns up (but I hold my breath) so that I will be able to afford to make it to some AQHA shows in the states next year!

Welcome to the forum. I'm also from the coast (Pender Harbour), but moved to Alberta in the early 90's.

Re: Hello from the Sunshine Coast, BC
Thanks Laura
I'm in Roberts Creek - have been for over 30 years...
I love Pender, we used to go to Ruby lake every summer and camp on one the little islands - good memories
It's grown so much now though, too crowded for me lol
How many horses do you have? Do you compete in anything or trail ride (my favourite thing to do since my back surgery).
I used to barrel race with my daughter but age got the better of my back
Talk soon
Michelle

Re: Hello from the Sunshine Coast, BC
Thats great, Roberts Creek, have many memories there at the ice cream stand that was across the road from the government wharf. Actually I bought my third horse from a lady there (can't remember her name though) back when I was about 13 years old, and she was about the best horse I have ever had or have now. We use to go also to Ruby Lake, and go swimming and have lunch at the restaraunt there. I lived just down Francis Peninsula and my sister and my nieces live just on the hill from Madeira Park now. What a small world. Now 33 years later, between my landlord and myself, we have 6 horses, and live on a cattle farm and have been here for 12 years. Don't get out much from here with the horses so there either pasture ornaments or have to check cattle and fences with. I do want to try a few things this year with them, but its usually not having enough time, which I am going to try to make the time this year. I barrel raced when I lived on the coast also. We would attend the shows just outside of Sechelt, which was a lot of fun and do our practise runs on a farm yard just down Garden Bay Road. Wow, bringing back lot of memories, at least there good ones. Hope to chat with you again.
