Before and After!
There is nothing better then seeing the transformation some horses go thru when they finally find that perfect home! I would love to see everyone's before and after pictures, weather it is a rescue or just an unstarted horse that you trained!
Look forward to seeing them!

Re: Before and After!
My one before and after story doesn't have much for obvious changes in her appearance other than her feet, muscle tone and coat condition, if you could take a picture of a horses demeanor that would be sumthin!! lol
Ooh ooh, I do have some videos tho. Youtube hates me but I'll try and figure out how to post :-)

I only have 1 real transformation. She came in a skinny little package with all kinds of issues, but we found the key to that Pandora's box ...10 months later

Re: Before and After!
I have a couple of "Rehab"s, first one up is Lex... I got him for pretty much auction price as he was deemed dangerous and a waste of time to the trainer who had him at the time. When I got him, he was stalled, and just being around him you could feel the nervous energy coming out of him... he was a ball of intense.
Here's the first time I took him out of the stall to see what he was like..
After a month with me, our first ride
here he is a year later...

Re: Before and After!
This is Sam... he was a 13yr old OTTB that was at the barn I work at, he had shown at spruce meadows, etc, but was traded for my trainers mare with cash. He got Sam's shoes pulled and he went completely lame for 2 months, and developed a sore shoulder, and back. I rehabbed him, and after about 4 months of working with him (revamped diet, started stretches and a working program, building the proper muscles on this topline and neck, etc), he was rehomed with a wonderful lady who will be his new forever trail riding buddy, and heès completely sound and happy now
Samès first day at the new barn
a few weeks into working with him
After about 3 months, after removing his shoes
with a friend of mine

Re: Before and After!
I got a couple.
This is Savannah. QH x Appy maybe? In her mid 30's. I purchased her from the Thorsby auction after seeing her go through the previous month with a RIDER ON her back. I bought her and took her to a friends place, then to my place to rehab her. Her tail was one solid piece of matted hair, that took me 2hrs or so to work out..it was down to the ground and when I was done with it her tail was hock length.
After a few changes in her diet, blood work from the vet, a farrier visit and 5 months with me she suddenly passed away in the pasture with her best buds at her side. I am sure she was quite the horse in her day, if only she could of talked i'm sure she would of had plenty to say! She was a sweetheart of a horse too....didn't need a lead rope or halter to bring her into her stall at night, just opened her paddock gate and she happily trotted into the barn to her stall door...heheh...
This is her in the auction yard.
Not a whole lot of weight put on but, a couple months later.
This is Hope. She was an aged Percheron mare my boss got from the auction for me to 'rehab' She was not a friendly horse and did not trust people. I was able to work with her enough to adventually be able to groom her, and brush out her ratty tail. She was fairly thin, dehydrated and needed a farrier and she had a foal at her side.
A day or so after we got her.
And in the summer!! Fat, healthy and happy!
Winter
This is her colt. I named him Austin and later sold him.
The day we got them home.
This was about in Feb..about 7 or so months after
Austin and my QH Gelding who stands as 15.2hh
And next up is Liberty a 12yr old Standardbred Mare....maybe crossed with some appy??
I got her in Sept 2006 after being starved and neglected along with a large herd of horses. She was extremely thin as you can see and she also had rain scald (we think) all over her back and rump..She was not to friendly with humans and infact threatened to kick me a few times. After much time spent with her in the barn, stall, field she let down the wall around her and started to trust me. Was a huge breakthrough for her and well worth the wait for me!
Her first day home with me
Yes, she had a filly at her side too. "Holly"
her filly
A few weeks after some good feed and TLC...ahhhh starting to shine!
Nov 2006
Rain Scald finally starting to heal and new hair growth
Dec 06
Her Filly
And in June/July
She has a bum!
And her Filly, an updated photo that was sent to me from her new owners.

Thank you so much, I have cared for a lot of rough looking TB's before so I knew what the term "hard keeper" meant, but she was the toughest I ever had.
At the same time overcomming her abuse issues she still had such a trusting heart...I cried alot of tears over my girl, but she is doing awesome & I think she is beautiful too!
