Hello, from Vershantie Ranch :-)))

Post  JezzaBella on Wed Apr 01, 2009 11:03 am

Hi my name's Shannon, my husband and I operate Vershantie Ranch... A boarding stable on the QE2.

Just thought I'd join, a friend (and our very first boarder) "Trademark" pointed me in this direction. I've been a member at other more worldwide horse forums and thought something more local will be a much better experience.

I own three horses: Bella, an 11 yr old Clyde mix; Dancer, an 11 yr old appy and last but not least Diesel, my coming 3 yr old bs paint. I basically ride pleasure, might touch on some dressage with Bella, but the other two are just going to be pleasure ridden. Diesel's got lots of training to go as it stands (western under saddle, and pleasure cart), so that will keep us pretty busy. I don't own horses to sport with or aim high at any particular discipline, but don't kid yourself...they aren't pasture ornaments, I spend much time with all three... In the summer we go out trail riding a lot, take them camping, ride around the track and infield here and expose them to the roads often. Winter riding is kept at a low, our indoor arena is pretty small and I lose interest in there fast. As long as I keep my riding up to par and my horses manners are kept sharp, I'm happy.

Aside from the farm, I help my husband lay flooring. But I do stay home when he doenn't require an extra hand moving product around and big install jobs. With all the critters and chores around here I'm kept more than busy. Non horse family companions are also: 3 dogs, 3 cats, 1 pig, 3 chickens (free range barn pets), 1 cockatiel.

My sense of humor can come across pretty abrasive at times, tone of voice is hard to detect in typed words on a screen lol. So I'll be careful to choose my words and smilies carefullly. I hope to get to know some of you and maybe meet up at some shows/clinics/trail rides :-) pig

Well it just goes to show how close knit the horse world is, sometimes it's a good thing. Sometimes not so much, but we won't go there LOL

Bella did awesome, better than I could imagine. I was kinda taken aback at all of the attention she attracted, I guess I wasn't expecting it lol. Everyone there were all great people and nice to talk to, or try to talk to (I was havin trouble). I love Ken's place, what a fantastic kinda place to chill out and enjoy a lovely warm day. I hope to make myself known there more often this summer, if not to participate but to spectate as well. I don't think I did very well, didn't really understand what was going on most of the time... hopefully the next one I'll be more mentally prepared for (SOMEONE needs lessons lol). There was a LOT of horses in there, more then I expected, crowds and large groups freak me out so I was UBER close to not being able to do it. Glad I did tho!

You and Bella did REALLY WELL!!! She was soooo good! Even if you just walked around in a circle and trotted a bit...who cares.

It was a good experience for her and you as well. Smile

I didn't understand alot of what was going on...got confused easily, to many people for me.....LOL but was fun and I enjoyed the day!

Had a good sleep that night too!.....LLOL

It was too busy in there and I needed more precise instructions like "Hay YOU, on the big fatty black horse... Leg yield off the wall right THERE". The whole time I was thinking "does he mean ME"... "am I supposed to DO this now, or should I wait for the word". Then when I'd get mentally ready to do somthing, someone would be in my way. By the time I could get past them and find a spot, we'd be moving on to something else. THe amount of people in there was REALLY frustrating, there was one guy who kept cutting me off and backing up right into me. Don't get me wrong, it was still fun and I met some pretty cool people, but smaller groups or one on one is much more my learning curve.

I'm a very unsure person, I kinda like when people yell at me. lol

Totally agree, I like the one on one as well and wasn't sure what to do half the time. Plus I like to know what I'm doing right or wrong and with the big groups it was hard to catch Ken's eye to see if you got a nod that ya your' doing that right.

It was fun though, and I learned alot. I sat out the last half as I wasn't feeling well and learned alot from listening and observing then I found I did in the saddle.

Nope thats right... she was the BIG FAT bay mare. Unfortunely she was a broodmare for an unknown amount of her life and her poor body hasn't recovered from it. But this summer he's going to be ridden lots and go on a diet, lol.

I was very proud of her being her first time for everything. I've never had a horse that loads better then her. She stood well the whole time she was tied and other then kinda getting bored of the arena and wanting to go outside to trail ride she listened and did very well. I guess she was a good buy.

I didn't know you bought her Leah, congrats! I'm sure you will have her looking the best she can for summer (poor old broodmares) I worked on a breeding farm & our mares were all kept in pretty good shape, & some that had a hard time bouncing back were given a season off.
She did pretty darn good for you at the clinic, you should be very proud.
